Westwood, nr Sheffield hosted the first OSET Cup North round last weekend with nearly 30 riders enjoying a great day.
With four different routes to choose from; easy, intermediate, hard and elite it provided an opportunity for new riders to come and try out trials, while ‘veterans’ like Joshua Witting made the move from intermediate up to hard and rode exceptionally well to take the D-Class win, having dropped 30 marks.
The Pickup brothers (Dempsey and Rylan) shared the top spot with Harrison Plant in the D-Class intermediates. The boys could not be separated after each dropped just three dabs! Doubtless this group will have an eye on stepping up to the hard route after riding the intermediate course as if it was a concrete flat path! Either that or OSET will have to invest in a bigger podium!
The only 12.5 rider was Auston Wood who enjoyed a podium all to himself! Simon Armstrong from OSET Bikes, who organised the event, said: “We really would encourage the smallest riders to come along and have some fun on their bikes. The easy route is all about having some fun and getting kids to try and stand up on the pegs and learn how to ride through the flagged gates.”
Girls Mollie Carney and Emily Petty bossed the D-Class easy route with Ralph Hoyle splitting the pair as he took second spot.
Simon added: “Four kids stepped up to the elite route, including national rider Jonnie Fannon. It’s really impressive to see the guts and determination the kids have at this level. Nothing fazes them, they give everything a go and as well as impressing me and all the parents, they all started on the white, easy route, which shows the kids starting out that with practice, riding bigger and more technical obstacles is totally achievable!”
Lukas Butcher, who finished mid-table on the intermediate D-Class bagged smile of the day. It had already been a tough week after going through three pairs of glasses, so the award provided a real boost as he heads down to the MER OSET Academy to book a day on the MX10.
Cameron Batty and William Nichols took Rider of the day awards with Cameron travelling all the way down from Cumbria with Dad Carl who organises OSET Trials back home in The Lakes.
Rounding off the awards were Grandma and Grandad Witting who stepped up to the podium to receive Parent of the Day – well deserved and thank you for all your support!
