Round 4 of the 2022 Essex Oset Cup was held on Saturday 28th May. Like last time out it was the wonderful Purls Hill venue that greeted the youngsters. Purls Hill is an infamous trials venue in this part of the country hosting many top class events over the years.  8 tough sections to be covered over 4 laps was order of the day over the very hilly wooded venue. Scores at the end of the day very much reflecting the increased severity over previous rounds.

Once again the strongest competition lay in the very young Youth D age category where 4 of these little guys chose to ride the hard red route. The win was taken yet again by the mighty atom Reuben Keet from the Surrey Schoolboys club who dropped 14 marks all trial. The super steep steps on section 7 causing him the most bother and parting with 6 marks. Toby Trevatt improved on previous outings and had a lovely solid ride to come in 2nd on just 29 marks. The podium was again made up of Thomas Tidd who was just 3 marks further adrift. Max Sturgeon was making his debut at an Essex Cup event and was riding very nicely indeed with just section 7 again causing him some issues.

Also in Youth D Academy rider Stanley Butcher dropped 36 marks on the easy route showing how tough the course was. First lap 5’s boasting his score by some margin!

Toby’s younger brother Sam Trevatt had a good battling win on 89 marks in Youth E on this route and pushed local rider Oliver Norman down to 2nd. It was a tough day in the office for Oliver’s Grandad Richard who was on minding duties. Come the end of a tough day in the office for the two of them on 105 marks Oliver was last seen with a huge smile on his face doing his new one leg stunt copied from the main boy - Eddie Belton!

Eddie took the overall win on home turf on just 9 marks lost despite riding the sections like he was on his enduro bike and then proceeded to show the others how to perform some tricks! Well done Eddie – great to see you ride a trial. Clara took the win in youth A as did her brother Harry who managed to get the better of Maya Butcher finishing on 63 and 70 marks respectively in Youth C on the hard route.

The June round has had to be cancelled so we now take a summer break an return for Round 5 of the series on the 19th September. In the meantime Castle Colchester club is running a youth electric trial on the 26th June so see you then!
